We are excited to announce a huge update to a feature you've all been asking about for some time. Capture My Vermont groups have been completely revamped!
The initial vision for groups was to create an online place for a real-life group. The idea was to not have groups about topics but instead groups that first exist in real life. Although the idea may have been well meaning, it never panned out to be as successful as we'd hoped. Group pages have been some of our least visited pages across the entire site! We aim to fix that with this update.
Over the last few weeks (and even months), we've received requests for more topic-oriented groups. Users have asked for groups to be a spot to collect photos about a particular subject or interest. So, we went back to the drawing board and tried to figure out how we could make groups a really useful place for users. Here's what we came up with...
A group is a spot for Capture My Vermont users who share a particular interest (or locale, eye color, favorite band, whatever) to join up, share photos with one another and discuss things in group-specific forums. The three main components of groups are:
Group Members: Groups can be public or private. For any public group, simply click "join the group" and you're in! Once you're a member of the group you can add photos to the group and join group discussions. You can join as many groups as you'd like, although we recommend joining groups you really have an interest in.
Group Photos: As a group member you can select photos to add to the group for others to see. Obviously, you want to be selective with what you're adding (since that's the point of a group). For example, if you're a member of the "Rodents are Rad" group, no one wants to see a photo of your car.
Group Discussions: One of the coolest aspects of groups is the ability to have discussions within a group. Get to know other group members, talk about how to capture a specific shot, ask for critiques, organize get-togethers, and so on.
So what are you waiting for? Check out the current Capture My Vermont groups and join the ones you're interested in, or create a new group if you don't see something you like. We hope to see groups for puppy lovers, car junkies, musicians, downtown photographers, folks with blue hair, Nikon owners, strobists, or whatever else floats your boat!
